Watching this now it hits me how everyone around Blanche just goes along with Stanley's bs lie. It's easy to pin all our wtf on Stella, who is stuck between two loves on top of dealing with the emotions that come postpartum all while adjusting to caring for the baby; but, seriously, what's everyone else's excuse? This says a lot about people being morally weak, as well as their hidden desire to see anyone taken down a notch. They're miserable, so they must take away her stories and illusions that bring her happiness. unnecessary cruelty indeed. Not to mention people's willingness to stand by an abuser, in friendship as well as romantic relationships. You keep hoping Mitch or Stella or anyone will point the reality out to Stanley- since that seems to be his bs reason for the way he treats Blanche, her refusal to be in reality- but nope. All the while, Claras husband, who is a police officer, is taking desperate measures to track them down. But New York is not all chills and frost. Slowly but surely, a wide array of lonely characters from The Big Apple are weaving in and out of their lives and little by little they learn that hope lies in the meeting with other people. ‘The Kindness of Strangers have the scope of a Hollywood classic, but is a Danish production from Creative Alliance in Copenhagen.
